There are plenty of things you could use a bow for after the apocalypse – so come try your hand at making a bow and refining your design.

How to Start a Fire (and put it out)

A top survival essential is knowing how to start (and put out) a fire. Learn the basics of starting a real roaring fire at the science centre! Can you use the materials we provide to start a fire - and do you know how to put it out when you're done?

Food Recovery/Conundrum - LeftOvers Foundation

Getting enough food is a huge issue for many people in our community right now – and it would, of course, be an issue for everyone who’s still alive after the zombie apocalypse. Meet LeftOvers Foundation, who are currently working on using food that would go to waste from the food service industry, and helping it get to those in need instead  – and talk to them about what we can do to run our food system more efficiently, apocalypse or not.

Cash, in All Its Forms - Nickle Galleries

Marina Fischer will be coming from the UofC’s Nickle Galleries to get hands on with some of the different ways humans have embodied value to exchange it more readily. From bartering, to using tea, to coinage, and forms of money that stay where they are even though their owners change. There are some fascinating ways people have approached cash explore how these patterns can inform currency in a post-apocalypse world.

You’ve probably heard of bitcoins, but even if you kind of know what they are, cryptocurrency can be a slippery concept. Talk to the team from Bitcoin Brains to learn about how this type of currency would serve you in a survival situation. Presented by Bitcoin Brains.

Fire Relay

To close out the night tonight, we’ll be having some fun with one of the classic survival skills: making fire. We’ll pick two teams of volunteers for an epic fire-making relay with a few different fire-making approaches and tools, and see which team is most successful.

Urban Chatter: Eavesdropping on Nature for Survival - Tyne Baker, Wildlife Biologist and Bioacoustician

What bird sound signifies you’re close to water? What animal sounds signal danger? Come learn how you can use the sounds of nature and different animals in and around Calgary to help you understand your surroundings for survival.

How do you accurately read your environment and the people in it better, faster, and with great accuracy than others around you. Learn about situational awareness and how it could help you in survival situations.

Mating and Dating in a Post-Zombie Apocalypse World - Dr. Susan Boon, Love Lab, University of Calgary

Are you concerned about how you might get a date after the zombie apocalypse? Well, you may still be concerned after this talk. But at least you can consider yourself prepared.
