Spark is preparing for takeoff on July 11! 

Environmental changes calls for adaptation! What can you expect at Spark? Aside from a handful of delightful surprises, Spark's re-imagined visitor experience will include:

  • NEW! Tuponia Trail: A collection of outdoor inflatables and art installations
  • NEW! A 360 Trip to Berlin: Digital experience by Dan Hudson
  • NEW! Superpower Dogs Dome Movie: Narrated by Chris Evans
  • Return of BODY WORLDS: ANIMAL INSIDE OUT (for a limited time)
  • Access to the Brainasium Outdoor Park: Calgary's largest physics-based outdoor playground
  • All galleries and exhibits will be temporarily closed

To align with the Alberta Health Services (AHS) guidelines, extensive adaptations and new safety measures are now in place for Spark’s reopening along with timed ticketing for all guests, limited capacity, reduced pricing, and new visitor experiences!

WHAT'S CLOSED

ALL UPPER AND LOWER GALLERIES WILL BE TEMPORARILY CLOSED.

Phase 1 of Spark's reopening includes the temporary closure of galleries, exhibits, hands-on interactive experiences Spark Eatery, workshops, facility rentals, locker rentals, water fountains, ATMs, the second level with the exception of camps and dome theatre exits. 


PARKING

A $7 parking fee is required and managed by ParkPlus (Pay at the Machines or online only). Cash services on site are limited. Please bring exact change or a credit card if you plan to purchase parking at the machines. Payment machines are located near the front entrance. Use zone 8310 if paying from your ParkPlus cell phone account.

AMENITIES 

Washrooms
2 washrooms areas are available inside the building by the Front of House and Atrium. Additional cleaning and safety measures will be implemented to protect guests and staff members. 

Food and Drink
Spark Eatery will be temporarily closed. Pre-packaged food and drink will be available for purchase in the lobby. Cashless payment only. Cash payments will not be accepted at this time. Socially distanced seating is available in the Dome Hallway and Brainasium Outdoor Terrace. 

Public Lockers
Locker rentals will be unavailable at this time. Guests are encouraged to leave valuables and personal belongings at home. 

Wheelchairs
Limited wheelchairs are available for a small deposit on a first-come, first-served basis and will be sanitized after each use. 

Socially-distanced seating
Socially-distanced seating is available in the dome hallway and Brainasium outdoor terrace. 

ATM
ATMs will be temporarily unavailable. Guests are highly encouraged to use contactless payment when possible.

ACCESSIBILITY

WHAT SPARK IS DOING TO KEEP YOU SAFE

  1. All cleaning procedures now use “wipe twice” method to clean first, then disinfect second (as required by AHS) 
  2. All cleaning products comply with Health Canada's COVID-19 cleaning regulations
  3. All garbage bins replaced with touchless receptacles, and emptied more regularly where PPE is being discarded by visitors or staff 
  4. Increased number of touchless hand sanitizers for visitors and staff with at least 60% alcohol-based 
  5. Corridors and pathways where social distancing is not possible have been physically divided for two-way paths where needed.
  6. All visitors over the age of 2 are asked to wear masks inside the facility to prevent the community spread and protect others
  7. Physical Plexiglas barriers in place at all payment stations for tickets, food and in the store to prevent the spread when social distancing isn’t possible

CAPACITY

Tickets are limited to 30 visitors per half-hour increments to ensure safe distancing for all guests.


HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES 

Science has never mattered more. To help protect against the spread of COVID-19, you should:

  • Stay home if you are exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms,  or have been in contact with anyone sick with COVID-19 within the last 14 days
  • Help prevent the spread by following the Alberta Health Services Guidelines
  • Self-screen using the Alberta COVID-19 Self-Assessment
  • Wash your hands often and well for at least 20 seconds. Refer to hand-washing guidance here.
  • Wear a mask indoors. All guests over the age of 2 years old are asked to wear a mask while in the facility to prevent the spread

The health and safety of Spark's employees, visitors, volunteers, families and students are a top priority. Spark is closely monitoring regular updates about COVID-19 and following guidelines from the Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
