A message to Educators

Hello educators,

These are unprecedented times in which we find ourselves, and our new normal is constantly shifting day by day. With schools unlikely to be back in session until the Fall and Spark temporarily closed to the public we won’t be able to host Calgary’s science fans for the next little while. For any of you who have already paid for your school programs and weren’t able to have them happen, we will be happy to reschedule into next year or refund you with no additional fee. We will begin taking bookings for next school year on June 1, and will be happy to find a spot in the shiny, new school year for your eager students. If you were going to pay for your program when you arrived there is no need to worry about refunds, but we are looking forward to having you book with us again!

TELUS Spark also recognizes the unfathomable changes for students, parents, and teachers during this time, and are eager to do our part to help out. Over the next little while, you are going to start to see modified video versions of our programs and content that we will be populating online here. They’re different than our in-house offerings, but will stimulate the same sense of wonder and interest as everything else that we do. Some things to keep an eye out for are a ‘Wonder Bucket’ where children can ask their ‘I wonder’ questions and get a response from the Spark team (and maybe some other special guests), online science presentations, live programming with experts and programmers, and more!

Through this all we want to stay connected with our community of educators and to that end we welcome all inquiries! Want to suggest an idea for an online program? Perhaps you have a follow up question from one of our teacher PD sessions that we will be holding online? Or maybe you just want to share a picture of your pet? All inquiries are welcome at educators@sparkscience.ca as this will be checked regularly during our temporary closure. And to stay in the know about upcoming school programming you should sign up for our educator newsletter (here) – it’s as easy as 1-2-3 and gives you the lowdown on the engaging things that we do.

We are keen to reopen for the summer, and hope to see you here or perhaps even at one of our summer camps!
