SHIFT Lab is a year-long program crafted by Spark designed specifically for educators. This leading edge opportunity gives you the tools to learn more about makerspaces, tinkering and design challenges while growing your experience and comfort level with risk-taking, collaboration, feedback, empathy and resiliency. Participate in hands-on workshops that require you to go beyond your comfort zone (in a safe and friendly environment) alongside engaging discussions with fellow participants and Spark staff members.
SHIFT Lab includes up to nine days of professional development:
Throughout the week, you will be working on a design declaration; a statement of what shift you want to make in your professional practice. Do you want to create a makerspace? Are you looking to incorporate empathy into your classroom activities? Do you want to help students build resiliency and teamworking skills by building models collaboratively? Are you curious about how to incorporate design challenges into the humanities?
No idea what you want to shift? Don’t worry!
Experienced TELUS Spark staff members will help you craft your design declaration and will support you in fulfilling your declaration over the school year.
Participating in SHIFT Lab connects you with a friendly, helpful and passionate group of educators who are SHIFT Lab participants and alumni. The educational conferences are a great opportunity to share knowledge and build your network. In Fall 2019, you will hear from SHIFT Lab alumni as a conference guest. By Fall 2020, you will have the option to present your experiences to the next cohort of SHIFT Lab participants.
SHIFT Lab is an amazing professional development opportunity that will change the way you think about yourself and the work that you do.
