Intro to Design Thinking

Explore a low-risk, introductory design thinking exercise that will allow you to tackle complex challenges by progressing through a process of empathizing, defining, ideating, prototyping and testing.

Rapid Idea Generation (RIG)

Dates: Half & Full Day Availability |

Dive into a high-energy, physical brainstorm called a Rapid Idea Generation (RIG). Build your ideas collaboratively through cycles of prototyping and feedback.  

  • - Take risks, fail quickly and build resiliency. 
  • - Discover a hands-on way to generate many ideas around a specific topic. 
  • - Develop a bias towards action.  
  • - Explore a variety of materials and discover how they can spark creativity and innovation.  
  • - Work collaboratively, share ideas and learn from others. 

 

8-4-1 Collaborative Brainstorm

Dates: Half & Full Day Availability |

Experience a collaborative ideation tool used to generate, refine, and iterate an idea, while leaving a path of ideas to fall back on. Great for students and for your instructional design work. 

  • - Work collaboratively, while sharing and learning from others.  
  • - Practice letting go of your ideas.  
  • - Build your creative confidence and practice visual thinking to express ideas.  
  • - Experience incorporating disparate perspectives and refining ideas. 
  • - Learn effective tools to give and gather feedback in a kind, honest and specific way. 

 

 

 

Designing a Makerspace

Dates: Half Day & Full Day Availability |

Everyone is a designer.  Learn to plan and organize around function and flow, using empathy and evaluation to bring your ideal learning spaces to life. Develop skills to evaluate, design and change the spaces you work in.

  • - Analyze and reflect on elements that make a space effective for its users.  
  • - Explore the piloting process used to design spaces.  
  • - Appreciate that everyone can be a designer.  
  • - Learn evaluation tools to determine success.  
  • - Strengthen problem-solving skills. 

Materials Experiment

Dates: Half Day & Full Day Availability |

Work collaboratively to set-up a design challenge for a specific user group. Explore how the selection and set-up of materials implicitly communicates to learners and can influence outcomes. Consider how this knowledge can be applied when creating and setting up design challenges in the classroom. 

  • - Analyze and reflect on different methods of arranging design challenges. 
  • - Work collaboratively, share ideas and learn from others.  
  • - Learn effective tools to give and gather feedback in a kind, honest and specific way. 
  • - Appreciate that everyone can be a designer 
  • - Understand the benefits and challenges of a learner mindset. 

 

Prototyping & Testing

Dates: Half Day & Full Day Availability |

Build a prototype (a physical representation of your group’s idea) and test it with our visitors in the Spark galleries. Learn directly from humans what works and what doesn’t. Apply those learnings in another cycle of prototyping and testing.  

  • - Work collaboratively in teams to come up with a creative solution to a complex problem. 
  • - Develop a bias towards action.  
  • - Flex your creativity by experimenting with different building materials.  
  • - Build and grow your empathy skills by interviewing and observing users. 
  • - Reflect on qualitative data and apply learnings to improve design processes and products. 
  • - Take risks, fail quickly and build resiliency. 

Facilitation Training

Dates: Half Day & Full Day Availability |

Learn how to become a better Facilitator through a full day workshop that will be hands-on and touch on a variety of things including “what is facilitation”, failure, tough questions, and a variety of other topics. 

  • - Co-create a working definition of facilitation  
  • - Learn indicators of a good facilitator 
  • - Hands-on time practicing Facilitation skills 
  • - Get comfortable with failing

Group Pricing (Up to 25 people)

  • Half Day: $1,000
  • Full Day: $1,500

1. Group costs include all materials for up to 25 participants. Each additional participant is $50 for half-day/full-day workshops to a max of 50 participants.
