Sustainability Savvy

Availability 

  • Ongoing position
  • Volunteer shifts will be one to three hours in length (typically Thursdays and Sundays), during operating hours
  • Occasional evenings may be required 
  • Volunteers need to be available at least once a month for a shift
  • Mandatory orientation September 8, 10am-4pm

Position Description

Help the Energy Sustainability team to test ideas for and delivery of a variety of public programs and experiences (examples: temporary exhibits, speaker series, technology workshops, family programs etc.) relating to responsible energy transitions. You will get to take part in the early design process and practice design thinking. Come learn about and communicate energy sustainability to a variety of audiences.

Key Responsibilities

You will be asked to help us:

  • Brainstorming new ideas to test
  • Constructing pilots
  • Facilitating pilot-tests* with TELUS Spark visitors
  • Making observations and take notes
  • Documenting the process through photos, videos, and recording anecdotes
  • Surveying and documenting the level of visitors’ engagement
  • Compiling and inputting visitor evaluation data
  • Gathering and compiling program materials

*Pilot tests are cardboard and duct tape prototypes of potential new exhibits.

Skills 

  • Friendly and comfortable talking to TELUS Spark visitors of all ages (ages 4+ to adults)
  • Comfortable with engaging individuals and groups (up to 25 people)
  • Comfortable with ambiguity with unpredictable situations
  • Good observation and analytical skills
  • Comfortable with spontaneous trouble shooting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Creativity and outside-the-box thinking
  • A team player
  • An interest in energy, sustainability or environmental science
