Whales | Tohorā

Add Whales | Tohorā to Your Visit

Opening on January 20, 2018, Whales | Tohorā will be at TELUS Spark until June 20, 2018.

Join us for a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience at TELUS Spark for the last chance to explore Whales|Tohorā before it leaves North America. Through a specially curated immersive and collaborative expedition, students will engage in exciting activities designed to maximize the rich connections in the Whales|Tohorā exhibit and a live science demonstration with their individual lives and their classroom curriculum.  Each class will use the specially designed adventure pack equipped with different resources and self-guided questions. Teachers and group leaders will use the materials provided in the adventure pack to guide their students through curriculum-linked objectives and hands-on investigations. This experience is suitable for all grade levels and has been adapted to maximize learning outcomes and linkages to the Alberta curriculum at individual grade levels.

What can you find inside the adventure pack?

  • Biofacts
  • Map of Gallery
  • Facilitation Questions for Whales | Tohorā exhibits
  • Activities for Spark Gallery Exploration

Live Science Demonstration

Students will be able to explore the connection between whales and their own experiences in Canada. How do ecosystems impact our lives on land? What can we do to help whales and the precious marine ecosystems? The Live Science Demonstrations are designed as an open-ended conversation to ignite curiosity and questions about the relationship between whales and our ecosystems.

  • Ocean Acidification - Use cabbage juice to examine the change from carbon dioxide to carbonic acid
  • Phytoplankton Demo - Learn how the movement of whales is vital to keeping phytoplankton in the sunlight zone
  • Tone Test - Use the tone generator to compare our range of hearing
